Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – After the Congressional Budget Office released its final assessment of the Senate Republicans’ healthcare bill, the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA), Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12) released the following statement:

“The CBO score for the Senate Republican healthcare bill should be the nail in its coffin. It tells us that this is just another Republican bill that will rip healthcare away from millions of Americans and put lives in danger. According to this independent analysis, the BCRA will leave 22 million more Americans uninsured by 2026 and cut nearly $800 billion from Medicaid.

“This bill, drafted in secret, is even meaner and more heartless that the House Republican’s bill – which I didn’t think was possible. This bill means higher costs for less coverage for all Americans, especially those over 50, as it eliminates guarantees for essential health benefits coverage and for individuals living with pre-existing conditions. It keeps the crushing age tax and Medicaid cuts we saw in the House, endangering millions of children, seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans.

“I hope this bill dies in the Senate, but if it doesn’t, I can assure you I will do everything I can to fight it in the House.”
