Zadroga Bill Authors Applaud Commitment to Reopen 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund by October 1st

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), and Peter King (R-NY), authors of H.R. 847, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, hailed the commitment from U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder that the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) will be ready to consider claims on October 1, 2011.  Attorney General Holder made the commitment at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing today.

Maloney statement on death of Bin Laden

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), made the following statement after President Obama's announcement of the death of Osama Bin Laden: "The announcement by the President was a truly historic moment after one of the most tumultuous decades in modern times. "It comes as welcome news to those who lives were ripped apart by attacks of 9-11. As we approach the 10th anniversary of that terrible day, this is also a solemn moment to reflect and remember. Nearly 3,000 men women and children died in New York City alone, due directly to orders issued by Osama Bin Laden. His death will help bring a measure of closure to our city and it represents the end of a chapter in a larger story still be written.   "There is more healing that must take place, more rebuilding that must be accomplished, and there are many still struggling to fully recover. "But tyrants are falling in the Middle East and freedom has made progress. And with this announcement I can hear my city breathing a sigh of relief."

Reps. Nadler, King and Maloney Request Special Congressional Delegation Visit to NYC for 10th Anniversary of 9/11

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), the representative of Ground Zero, Congressman Peter King (R-NY), and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) requested that the House Leadership organize a special congressional trip to New York City in September to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks of 9/11.

Reps. Maloney, Nadler, and King Announce March 3rd Public Information Session on Zadroga Law in NYC

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), and Peter King (R-NY), authors of H.R. 847, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, announced that the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) will be holding a public meeting in New York City on March 3rd to answer questions about how the new law will be implemented.  Maloney, Nadler, and King requested the meeting in a January 25th  letter to Dr. John Howard, the Director of NIOSH.  A copy of that letter can be found below.

9/11 Health Bill Authors Provide Info About New Law

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), and Peter King (R-NY), authors of H.R. 847, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, released four new documents from the Congressional Research Service (CRS) to help answer questions that members of the media and the public may have about the new law.  The Zadroga law provides health care for those exposed to toxins released by the collapse of the World Trade Center towers, and reopens the federal September 11 Victim Compensation Fund to provide economic relief to those harmed by the attacks.  Below are links to the four documents:

9/11 Health Bill Authors Pay Tribute to Det. James Zadroga

Washington, D.C. – Today, New York Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), authors of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, paid tribute to the late James Zadroga, an NYPD Detective, a hero 9/11 rescuer, and the namesake of the recently-passed legislation to address the health crisis caused by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.  Detective Zadroga passed away after a long battle with 9/11-related illnesses on January 5, 2006.

9/11 Health Bill Signed by President

Washington, D.C. – Today, President Obama signed into law legislation authored by New York Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), and Peter King (R-NY) to address the health crisis caused by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.  H.R. 847, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, provides health care for those exposed to toxins released by the collapse of the World Trade Center towers.  The bill also reopens the federal Victim Compensation Fund to provide economic relief to those harmed by the attacks.

9/11 Health Bill Passes U.S. House, Will Be Signed by President

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives passed, for the second time, legislation to address the health crisis caused by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.  H.R. 847, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, will provide health care for those exposed to toxins released by the collapse of the World Trade Center towers.  The bill will also reopen the federal Victim Compensation Fund to provide economic relief to those harmed by the attacks.  Earlier today, the Senate passed an amended version of the bill that reduces the bill’s cost to $4.3 billion over five years.  A summary of the Senate’s changes can be found below.

Rep. Maloney Joins Mayor Bloomberg at Press Conference to Push Senate Vote on 9/11 Health Bill

New York, NY – Today, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, one of the authors of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, joined with Mayor Michael Bloomberg, members of the New York Congressional delegation, labor leaders, 9/11 responders, and others at a press conference at City Hall to urge the Senate to finally pass the Zadroga Act.  Maloney’s remarks can be found below.
