Washington, D.C. –Congressman Scott Rigell (R-VA), Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (D-OH) introduced H.R. 5165, the Advancing Girls in STEM Act. This important bipartisan legislation would increase exposure and awareness of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields for elementary and middle school girls. Currently, 74 percent of all workers in STEM fields are male. Through a competitive grant program, this bill will encourage young girls to pursue an advanced education and career in STEM fields, while helping to address our nation’s STEM workforce inequities.

When the congressional delegation met with MTA leaders last week, the message we sent was simple: go back to the bargaining table and do what is necessary to avoid a strike. With the support and urging of Governor Cuomo, that is what has occurred.

Maloney is the lead Democratic co-sponsor of the TRIA Reauthorization Act of 2013 (H.R. 508) to extend the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program for five years, through December 31, 2019.
